Plan a relaxed local day trip
Take the scenic route
A local day trip with room to stop for something completely unnecessary.
Choose your dates and weekly hours in the planner. Your plan saves in this browser.
Who this is for
Someone who would like a change of scene without turning a day out into an ambitious travel itinerary.
Before you begin
Choose a destination within your time and travel budget. Check access, opening times, transport and the needs of anyone traveling with you.
Your first session
Pick one main stop and leave space around it. Work backward from the return journey so the day has room for delays and an unplanned pause.
The path in four steps
- Choose a destination within reach
- Check access and travel time
- Leave room for a slow stop
- Take the trip
Use these as editable milestones. The linked activity source supplies the detailed instructions; adjust your plan as you learn.
What finished looks like
Take the outing and keep a note of a place you would revisit. A successful trip can be modest; covering more distance is not a requirement.

Step 3: Leave room for a slow stop
Nalgene 32 oz narrow-mouth water bottle
Pack drinking water for the planned stops using a bottle you already own where possible.
Consider: The narrow opening is convenient for drinking but less convenient for adding ice or cleaning by hand. Check the size fits your bag. Plan water needs for the conditions; one bottle is not a universal supply or a water-treatment system.
Free or already owned: Refill a suitable bottle you already own and check where drinking water is available.
